What Are the Uses of Oxsoralen?

Oxsoralen is used as a topical repigmenting agent for vitiligo. This medication is generally given with the combination of ultraviolet A or sunlight. It may be used for any other condition as prescribed by your health care provider.  This medication works with light therapy. It increases the sensitivity of the skin to ultraviolet radiations. The increased sensitivity of the skin to ultraviolet radiations damages the skin. These damaged skins have slow rate of cell growth.  This reduced rate of cell growth helps in the treatment of several skin conditions.  This medication is categorized under pregnancy category C by FDA. If this medication can actually do any harm to the fetus or not is not known. You must have a consultation with your health care provider before administering this medication. It is also not well known whether this medication can be absorbed or excreted through breast milk or not. You must take precautions while taking this medication if you are a nursing mother. Children below 12 years of age should not use this medication.  Always let your health care provider know if you have any other health conditions. If you are taking any other medication including herbal and vitamin supplement, you must report to your health care provider.

Almost each and every medication can cause side effects. Oxsoralen Lotion can also cause some minor side effects. Some of the commonly seen side effects with the medication of Oxsoralen Lotion include itching, redness and dryness of the skin.  These side effects can be easily tole3rated by most of the patients. These side effects do not require any medical attention. These side effects occur only during the initial stage of the medication. After an advancement of this medication these side effects generally disappear.
