What Are the Early Signs of Schizophrenia?

Submitted by on October 11, 2011 – 12:02 amNo Comment

Below, we have discussed the early signs of schizophrenia:

Emotional signs:
The common emotional signs of schizophrenia are delusions and hallucinations. However, before experiencing these signs, the patient with schizophrenia might develop emotional signs like lack of happiness, sorrow and other feelings. During the initial phase, these emotional symptoms might indicate that the patient is a victim of depression. The schizophrenic individual may start isolating himself from family members and friends, react indifferently on important dates like birthdays and anniversaries and stop taking part in events that he once used to cherish for instance going for long drives, golfing etc during weekends. During the initial stage of schizophrenia, the affected individual goes through dramatic mood changes; he may appear to be irritable, get involved in arguments with loved ones and coworkers easily, experience suicidal thoughts and anxiety etc.

Physical signs: Some of the common signs of schizophrenia are delusions, hallucinations, disorganized behavior, confused speech and negative signs like loss of emotional expressions. Before the onset of these schizophrenia symptoms, the patient is likely to suffer from physical signs like troubled sleeping, clumsiness, occurrence of infrequent blinking and involuntary movements etc.

Behavioral signs: The behavioral symptoms are the biggest indicators of schizophrenia; these signs are mostly noticed by family members and friends of the schizophrenia patients. The behavioral changes are generally mild during the early stages of schizophrenia; for example, the patient might forget taking showers or keep on wearing the same clothes for 3 consecutive days. With progression of schizophrenia, these symptoms might get aggravated; for instance, the patient might not go for a bath without someone else’s intervention or do not change the outfit for an entire week. Another common behavioral sign of schizophrenia is deterioration in performance in the office or school.
