Relief From Embarassment - Try Kegel

Many of us go through humiliating conditions during day-to-day activities like sudden dispersal of the bladder in the form of urine during rapid, sudden movements of sneezing, coughing or while laughing. Women of all stages of life go through this debilitating form of incontinence or lack of control. This occurs due to flaccid urethra resulting from overuse, aging, or those in the habit of holding it in. Many women feel an unexpected, quick and sometimes aching urge to pass urine; many times the feeling is so overwhelming that they are unable to control the urge, many times doing it on the way before being able to reach the bathroom. The problem is mostly seen to occur in women past their fertile years.

Without any forewarning, there is a sudden seepage of urine in droplet form or so much that one might need to use pad to solve the problem. This flaccidness of the pelvic region are due to several factors like motherhood, overweight, improper stance, invasive surgeries like hysteroscopy that might slacken the muscles or reduce nerve control in the urinary track area. Severe ailments like diabetes, Parkinson’s disease causes a hyperactive bladder.

Estrogen therapy is also suggested by many doctors to reacquire the tautness of the urethral area. Kegel is vouched by many health experts as the ideal fitness regime for pelvic area recuperation in both sexes. This exercise has its bearings in several primeval cultures of India and China, which aim to exercise the pelvic muscles as a means to achieve optimal long and healthy life, and gratification of the all the three senses in the body.

Its expediency lies in the fact that one can do it on a sly while carrying out routine, mundane tasks like cooking, driving, reading books with the knowledge of others around you. In women, the key requirement is the contraction and relaxation of the muscles of the urinary system to get them into shape. Many women who practise Kegel during pregnancy have fewer risk of distended bowel, vaginal and urinary areas.

In men, the contraction of the anal sphincter is the key to Kegel. This exercise is most effective when started with 10 second durations each of contraction and relaxation of the muscles for about 10 to 20 times in a day. Women need to bear in mind to not attempt this exercise when they go to the loo, as it may lead to urinary tract infection.

One needs to pay utmost care to monitor their diet for certain medications for heart and blood pressure, sleeping pills can cause recurrence of this problem. Some drinks like tea, coffee, alcohol, fruit juices, heavily spiced foods are proven diuretics which cause frequent urination which are needed to be reduced significantly.
