One of the most common surgical procedures used today to fix eye problems is LASIK eye surgery. LASIK is an acronym for laser assisted in situ keratomileusis. By getting this procedure, many patients no longer need eyeglasses. Another reason for the popularity of this particular Optical Express laser eye surgery is the recovery time. Recovery from this surgery is rather quick with most people having their vision restored the following day. Also, LASIK surgery has a fast recovery time.

This particular procedure has been around for quite some time now. However, it was previously performed by skilled surgeons using hand instruments. Modern methods improved and a laser was used instead for the procedure and thus LASIK eye surgery was born.

Following LASIK surgery, patients are required to rest for a short time. Then they are released to go home where they must continue resting for several more hours. During this time, some irritation is common which can be relieved with pain relief. The eyes may feel watery and itchy but under no circumstances should the patient rub their eyes. If they do, there is a great possibility that this can affect the flap of the cornea.  The day following the surgery, patients are advised to wear an eye shield given to them by the optician.

Work can usually be resumed the following day. However, doctors recommend that ideally this should be avoided. Certain activities must also be avoided for a short time such as strenuous activities or sports. Refraining from these activities lasts about a month.

A few days following the LASIK eye surgery, the first check up will occur. The doctor will remove the eye patch at that time and examine the eyes. Drops may be prescribed if any swelling or infection is present. Generally, the entire healing process following LASIK surgery takes 6 months. However, this does not mean the activities of the patients are limited this long. Extra care should just be taken to protect one’s eyes from possibly dangerous activities.
