If you are one of those who is has a regular schedule of traveling for work-related reasons or personal, or holidaying -travelling has its own enticement and strain. Frequent jaunts can take its toll on the body, especially if it involves long journey times by air, jet lag being the most common complaint.

One needs to keep high intake of fresh food during trips. Consume ample amounts of apples, bananas, apricots (dried or fresh), unsalted nuts which will keep the nutrient intake high and thus keeping your mind and body alert and energetic. For the road, keep a good stock of wholesome food like fruit juices, fresh or dried fruits, almonds, green tea and water.

It’s always a better option to keep away from unhealthy, fat-laden foods which are many times offered on flights and at business gatherings. It is always ideal to small meals distributed at equally spaced times, when traveling. One might be tempted to sample the chips or breads, if waiting for long for your meal. A better option would be to order a soup-salad before your meal arrives, and load yourself with water through the day. One might be tempted to sample the sumptuous food display in the hotel, but the key point being to opt for whole wheat options, oats, low-fat options of milk, yogurt. One can opt for the grilled variety in your food like grilled meat, or poached, flambéed or pan-seared variety. Avoid white sugar based desserts or sweets though they give instant gratification but tend to pile on the pounds.

It is many times only human to binge out, but the key being moderation coupled with regular exercise. One must try to fit in some form of activity in our routine when traveling. One can schedule exercise in the day, while on an outing, just as one does at home. Early mornings seem to be the ideal times to exercise, as the mind and body are fresh. One needs to schedule exercise routines with as much allegiance as one would schedule one’s business/work meets.

When booking your stay in the hotel, it is better to check out the one has access to a well-equipped workout area or a close by fitness establishment and make optimal use of the slot times offered there. This will aid in maintaining the consistency in your workout routine even when you are on the go. Engaging in moderate intensity walks in free times, opting for the stairs most of the times, will keep the calories burning in your daily routine. One can even do power yoga during free times in the trip. Thus, the key being that travelling with a maintenance mindset will help you remain fit through your trips and returning back home without any additional spare tyres.
