Latest Breakthroughs in Science in 2014

Cancer immunotherapy is a way of using the immune system in the body to deal with tumours. This would mean that the treatment would not attack the tumour but would use the immune system to attack it. Beginning from 2013, the research had a final conclusion in 2013 and is being carried forward to 2014.

Cancer immunotherapy is a major paradigm shift amongst the researchers and deals with how people tackle cancer. The technique involves training the immune cells and teaching them to recognize the major characteristics of the cancerous cells. These would then fight back. There is a lot of work left in this breakthrough in science but is sure to give good results.

It is surely a major ray of hope for all the cancer patients across the world and falls in the category of breakthrough.

You also have another breakthrough, which deals with scientists discovering why we need sleep. Many scientists after considerable research have identified the first reason why we should sleep. This is basically to clean the brain and is a way of allowing the cells to grow. When the brain is sleeping, the channels help the cells to grow. The cerebrospinal fluid goes into the depths of the tissues of the brain and helps to take out all the toxic proteins that usually build up during the day.

If one does not get enough sleep then we are liable to get neurogenerative disease like Alzheimers.

The third major breakthrough in science is a gene editing tool called CRISPR, which is rising in popularity now. CRISPR stands for Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindrome Repeats, which was found in bacteria, which operates like an immune system invading the virus. The entire structure is made up of a number of stretches, which are broken by short spacer sequences, which come from viruses that have infected the cells of the bacteria.

With continuous breakthroughs in science, there has been an alteration in the medical sciences now.
