How To Treat Bunions

A bunion is a deformity that is mainly made up of a lateral deviation of the great toe which enlarges due to a tissue or a bone. It is a serious foot problem. These are formed within the foot and not on the surface of the foot. An arthritic condition and  a result of bone degeneration it is found as  a lump on the outside portion of the big toe. Bunions are seen near the joint of the toe and sometimes on the joint of the small toe. This bump on the small toe is called a bunionettte.

They are quite painful as they are huge, which makes them more prone to getting rubbed or bumped. Again, the toe goes  inward and rubs against the toe next to it. This makes the second toe become a hammertoe which is again another problem.

Bunion DisordersIt is believed that the lumps are caused due to high heels or any kind of shoe that exerts pressure. But this is not so. Ill fitting shoes or footwear could worsen the condition. These bumps on the toes are hereditary and are normally visible in pairs, meaning they would be seen in both the feet.

Treatment and  care of bunions, is done by applying ice there. You could also give a foot treatment by soaking your feet in vinegar solution. One cup of vinegar for a gallon of water relieves your feet and protects it.

Make sure you have foam rubber or moleskin in the inside and keep it as a padding. Keep a hole in the center so that the bump passes through it. Wear a shoe with a big toe or keep your footwear such that the bunion is exposed.

Insoles are good for such conditions and there are many exercises which reduce your pain. Sometimes if the pain persists then a surgery is required.

Thus, bunions are a medical problem which needs to be tended to carefully.
