EndoPAT Fingertip Screening Test – Express Heart Disease Monitoring Tool

A common confounding query that people pose regularly to their cardiologist is ‘How do I recognize whether I would develop heart disease? Even as there are no simple answers, the EndoPAT (Endothelial Peripheral Arterial Tone) is a pain-free, non-invasive device that could measure heart health by merely a fingertip test. Created by Itamar Medical, an Israel-based company, EndoPAT had earlier received FDA acceptance during 2003 and has been widely popular among celebs and managed to garner the stamp of acceptance from U.S. physicians and reputable medical institutions such as the Mayo Clinic.

EndoPAT Heart Test – Manner of Functioning

EndoPAT testEven though there are ultrasound testing presently available to assist physicians in assessing whether a person has early inception of heart disease, the EndoPAT is capable of looking way ahead – up to nearly 7 years in the future and could sense if or not the arteries are becoming lesser elastic and measures health of blood vessels. Many of the tools presently obtainable in the market are able to detect heart disease within around 1, 2 or 3 years.

This is a mere fifteen minute test which could gauge heart health employing duo tiny probes which can be hooked on to both the index fingers and a blood pressure measuring cuff is banded around one arm. Cuff inflation is then done which stops blood supply to that hand and arm. The finger tip bio-sensor on the cuffed arm would not reveal any blood supply whereas the sensor on the index finger of the non-cuffed arm would continually show normal blood supply level. Releasing of the blood pressure cuff is then done following a number of minutes which would allow blood to gush back in to the cuffed lower arm. In case the finger bio-sensor on the cuffed arm has shown a surge in blood flow then it is indicative of normal functional blood vessels. In case the blood supply has been lethargic then the blood vessels are not healthy.

One of the reasons why the EndoPAT finger test is so useful is that the coronary arteries present in the heart respond to stress in much the analogous manner as blood vessels located in the arm respond to being constricted by the blood pressure cuff. Sluggishness in blood vessels of the arm also means the similar case holds true with the coronary arteries. This could lead to atherosclerosis and augment chances of suffering a heart attack.

The positive side is that such form of vascular abnormality could presently be spotted earlier on. Teens with diabetes, for example, mostly get unfavourable reading way prior to there being any build-up of atherosclerosis plaque formations in the arteries.
