Emotional Health and Children

Emotional health is something that is important for all of us, whether it be children or  adults. What matters ultimately is what exactly is the state of mind at that point of time. So emotional health is that part of our reaction which makes us understand the problem and react adversely to it. Emotional health should be healthy for a healthy life. Especially when it is children, it is the state of emotional health that matters very much and so we should be able to handle the emotional health of the children such that they feel secure and loved and also safe.

Anxiety is very closely related to emotional health. Anxiety is that form of stress that is experienced in many ways. It could be physical, mental or emotional and it is only on us to be able to handle it very well. Worrying about things going wrong might give a lot of anxiety and may give you feelings that you are in danger.

Anxiety is a natural reaction and serves as a biological function. This is a kind of alarm system that is motivated when we feel we are in danger or when we are in threat. When both the mind and the body react there are physical sensations like a rapid beating of the heart, a kind of dizziness and also there is a lot of difficulty in breathing and you might even get shaky or sweaty. Children normally feel this kind of reaction and it is upto the adults to understand just exactly how they feel. Anxiety in children causes the adrenaline to rush and the stress hormones prepare themselves to make a flight from danger.

The fight flight response is what makes the children to react in a particular way and the cortex sends the signal to the nervous system and this is what makes the children react the way they do.

Bullying is one form of behavior that follows an anxious situation. First of all if you are prey to bullying or your child is prey to bullying then understand that there are certain steps that you have to take to work towards the emotional health of the child and its behavior.

First of all talk about it. Talk about bullying with your child and make other family members also understand the experiences of the child and what makes him bully this way. If one of your children is becoming a bully, then tell  him why it is nor right for him. Praise the child when he takes efforts not to bully and also for being brave enough to avoid bullying. If the child is bullying in school then talk to the school authorities about it and address the situation, such that you can handle the emotional health of the child in the right way and also ensure that you can co relate between the emotional condition that could affect the child and drive him towards it.

Emotional health and children is often a complementary situation. One complements the other. So make sure that you remove all the baits that contribute to making the child a bully. So you can actually neutralize the situation by encouraging him to thing beyond the situation that makes him a bully and gets his emotional health all tangled up.

Again make sure that you keep calm and carry on irrespective of the situation and irrespective of whether the child is aggressive or angry. Make sure you allow the child to say his bit and then bring his emotional health under control and explain to him the way to keep calm and handle situations. Often the emotional health of a child is affected mainly because he doesn’t know how to handle the situation.

Emotional health is a condition that that is often seen to affect a child. Emotional health and children and interrelated problems and have to be handled with due ease.
