Look Under Your Eyes – Dark Circles And Eye Bags

Submitted by on October 29, 2010 – 3:57 amNo Comment

Many of us are disturbed due to the under eye problems like eye bags and dark circles getting formed in early ages. These dark circles ruin the entire look of a person. I, personally, experience the inferiority complex standing next to my colleagues and mates, whose faces look flawless, when we’re out for a group picture. My problem are the dark circles who always make me look weak and sick, and I hate becoming the center of attraction for the flaws in my looks. The worst thing is that no make up can cover them completely, so as to merge the shade of that region under the eyes with that of rest of the face. Why do these dark circles arrive at all?

A sign of aging

Well, dark circles form under the eyes due to specific reasons. They are also called eye bags. And they are common signs of aging. This states that the aging process is one of the reasons of formation of dark circles. Every person experiences this condition some or the other time in life. But an early appearance of the dark circles can be a hastened process. There are fat deposits stored below the eyes and the fat is held in position because of the ligaments. As one grows older, the ligaments lose strength and loosen up. This lost elasticity of the skin causes the eye bags to appear. The melanocytes in the body show fluctuations in their melanin production in such areas. Hence, there form dark circles around the eyes.

Sinus-eye-tis

An early appearance of the dark circles is an out come of other processes in the body too. There are factors like illness or some kind of disorder which is persistent in the body that gives rise to the dark circles. One such condition is the problem of sinusitis. The areas surrounding the eyes get swollen and deflated due to chronic sinusitis. With every attack of the sinus headaches, the eyes and under eye region are also affected. There, basically, occurs the loss of elasticity in the facial skin, esp. the one that surrounds the eyes. This causes formation of wrinkles and eye bags, not to mention the dark circles, under the eyes.

Genetic gift

There are some genes in the body that are associated with some specific conditions and functions of the body. These genes pass on from parents to children while reproduction and at correct times they begin their work. Such genetic reasons are also prominent for the formation and persistence of dark circles under the eyes. The chances of these flaws in the skin increase if there is a family history of dark circles.

Sun Exposure

Too much of exposure to the sun increases the functioning of the melanocytes. The most prone areas for the capture of melanocytes are the under eye regions. Sunlight, anyways, causes hyper- pigmentation of the skin, esp. under the eyes. The frequent and unprotected interaction of the rays of the sun with the natural pigmentation of the body skin causes the automatic darkening of the subcutaneous layers under the eyes. Hence, dark circles easily get a way to form when the person exposes himself to hot sun, without having any protective sun mask – sun screens, scarves, glares, etc. – applied or used for covering the facial skin.

Lack of sleep

Lack of rest and sleep is the major cause of the formation of dark circles under the eyes. I mentioned it at the end because I am fond of saving the best for the last. Anyways, less sleep, disturbances while sleeping, incomplete sleep, stressful sleep – all these comprise to be one major risk to the under eye regions with the dark circles. A day full of unresolved problems and the resulting tension can help stress creep in the sleeping hours of the day. Moreover, if the person already spares less time to sleep, it is a well set situation for eye bags and dark circles to show up. Hence, patients of insomnia are always judged for the facial looks and under eye skin condition.

Ways out

When it comes to cures, dark circles are not a disease to be cured. A curtailment on the occurrence of all the causes of dark circles and eye bags is the best way to be off them. However, one may reduce the swelling of the under eye skin, and clear up the dark circles by relaxing their eyes. This relaxation can come via resources like iced spoons, fresh fruits and vegetables and their juices included in the diet. Frozen tea bags can act as coolants as well as work on the skin tone in the areas of dark circles around the eyes. Medications are also available in the form of eye drops, lotions, crèmes, and other preparations. All such techniques adopted can aid the fixation of the eye bags and dark circles for a period longer than 10 years from the commencement of the treatments.
