A regular work- outs and exercise plan not only aids one’s body to tone up and build up muscles, but also it helps enhance the lowered activity of the immune system. The common cold symptoms are caused due to the immune system being weak and hence not being able to fight the viral infections that invade the body. Studies, researches and experiments have proved that regular exercise can alleviate the common cold symptoms and keep a person healthier. This is seen just by increasing, or scheduling, the exercise by just 5 minutes a day and five times a week. This plan is a signature for people experiencing fewer occurrences of common cold with lesser severities.

Exercise and diet are the two most powerful weapons one has during the winter months for protecting themselves from the ailments like viral fever, common cold and cough, joint aches, etc. A 30- minute brisk walk, on a daily basis, can be a great effort to reduce the adversities of common cold – like fever, cough, cold, sneezes, headache, fatigue, shivers, etc. A person feels cold because of less hemoglobin in the body blood. This can be taken care of by dietary alleviations for common cold. Second reason for falling prey to cold is a lazy blood circulation in the body. Common cold exercise like brisk walking and jogging allows the body to undergo vigorous blood circulation. Exercise also generates heat in the body, which cancels the cold felt by the body and aids shivering. Exercise also causes the stimulation of the immunity cells of the body and till about three hours post a workout the immune cells are in their state of highest activeness. More the exercise, better the immunity – that’s the funda.

A body can achieve a top level of protection from infections of common cold by increasing the frequency of exercise. No need to spend all your energy at a time. One needs to workout just for a 30- minute period in the morning and then take rest for 5 – 10 minutes. Following this, continue your routine activities. Again, when next you find time, the sooner the better, take another dose of 15 – 20 minute exercise and continue with the same plan through out the day. Like, to stay healthy, one’s body needs food a minimum of 3 times a day, the body’s well being is also characterized by a minimum of 3 sets of exercise a day. This can be anything from walking and jogging to bending and stretching. It is better to divide the exercise according to the time when one does it. I call them the 3 meals of exercise. For example, one must choose to brisk walk and jog in the first meal, i.e. morning. The mid- day meal of exercise must be of a mixture of moderate stretching and jogging, which one can perform while short breaks at work or school, or at home. The evening meal of exercise must be light stretching and breathing. This is perfect for the evening hours, since one may need to relax after work and nothing could be better than stretching and breathing when talking of relaxation.

Researches have discovered that the duration for which the common cold symptoms last reduces by 43 % to 46 % among people who chose to undergo such a plan of workout for more than 4 times a week. These results were compared to those of the people who exercised for just once or twice a week, or, in fact, never did. The intensities of common cold symptoms experienced by the ones, who feel fit after the regulation of exercise in their routine, are lesser by 41 %. More than changes in diet, reduction in mental stress, weight maintenance, and other health factors, exercises are seen to be most quick and effective in curing the common cold symptoms. And the best part is unlike medications, this method of physical activity does not pose way for any of the side- effects. It can work for everyone irrespective of gender, age, health, education, etc. There are enough evidences from past human experiences that regular exercise can prove the best method for making common cold symptoms uncommon among sufferers.
