This disease is very common today whether in India, South America Sub-Saharan Africa or any other country. In the earlier days, many people used to die because of cholera. At present, because of well-managed water and sanitation systems, the disease is under control and the doctors have become successfully able to deal with the problem through various high-tech medicines. However, all and sundry should know what exactly is the disease and how it can spread or treat and what all are the preventions.

What is Cholera?

Cholera is a sensitive, diarrheal sickness that is occurred because of the infections or effects of a kind of bacteria called vibrio Cholerae. The infection is usually transmitted by polluted water or food .It is usually gentle, sometimes even without any symptoms, but at times it can be very severe. Human being is the only purveyor of cholera. It occurs especially in the temperate months among the low socio-economic populace mostly because of their unhygienic behavior. Children between the ages of 1 to 5 years are generally harassed by the disease. But in the other common areas it can be seen in age groups.

Cholera diseaseCause of Cholera:

A person can get Cholera by eating infected food or drinking impure water. This disease can spread in the areas that have insufficient sewage and drinking water systems. Many people have been striked by this disease due to the intake of food from roadside vendors. These bacteria can also be found in the environment mostly in the salty rivers and coastal waters. Thus, eating raw or uncooked shellfish which are naturally infected can also direct to cholera.

Symptoms of Cholera:

Cholera shows various steps of symptoms. Usually the first step is called the diarheal stage where the patient has water diarrhea that is of several times but without any pains, vomiting or rice water stools. He /she can also have cramps in the stomach or legs. But if ignored, it can move to the dehydration stage, where the patient can have dehydration, pinched eyes, cold skin, more of thirst, fragile pulse, shock, reduced urine, muscle cramps or muscle weakness, which can even lead to death. There are also cases where the patient has gone to the dehydration stage but not died and had some other side affects on health like extreme thirst, Loss of chloride, potassium or bicarbonate in the body, hypotension or even kidney failure.

Exams and Test:

The primary step of getting a proper medical guidance is a proper diagnosis.Cholera can only be tasted by the diarrheic stools of the infected person. Sometimes the isolated foods are also being tasted to understand the creation of cholera enterotoxin in the body.

Treatment of Cholera:

Usually, the patients arebeen given a mixture of sugar and salt mixed with water and drink in large amount. This method is used in each and every part of globe to fight with diarrhea. But currently an oral vaccine has been invented, which provides better immunity with less unfavorable effects.  But usually, a appropriate physician   always suggest for a proper bed rest , a dose of tetracycline , sulphonamides, fluid replacement in the body, salt revelation, electrolytes isolation and anti-transmission protocols.  Instantaneous replacement of fluid and salt in the body can successfully treat cholera.

Prevention:

A proper hygienic behavior is always a need to fight with any disease and it becomes compulsory and works as a half medicine when it comes to cholera. The main way to prevent cholera is avoiding infected food and water. The people who are traveling out where the disease is common should always be disciplined. Drinking boiled water which is treated with chlorine and iodine, or using only boiled water to even make tea or coffee, eating carefully cooked vegetables   or food and avoiding salads, eating fruits that are properly peeled and avoiding undercooked or raw fish or shellfish and avoiding food from the street vendors are the much-needed habits that any body and every body should carry out to evade cholera for ever. The person who is suffering with this disease should not share food or drinking water or even other things with others and should catch a reliable physician.
