Causes of Stress – Targeting Job Related Stress

To begin with, this is not an era to make comparisons between men and women, and then degrade the women. Females are gaining, or should I say have gained, equal importance in the domestic as well as professional world as that of men. But now they wish they weren’t equal in everything. Researches have been continually producing results that bring up news like the rate of heart diseases in male population is elevating pertaining to increasing stress of the jobs. Now it’ll be about women giving them a competition in this sector too. Women with more stressed jobs are more risked towards the heart attack and strokes. Female workers who are posed under immense stress of work are found to have more problems like high blood pressures, diabetes, mini strokes, etc. to deal with, as compared to the women who have less stressful jobs to work on.

One of the major, but often ignored, causes of stress due to a job is the contrasting difference between one’s likes and the job. It is purely simple to understand that if one does not like to do what he does, he may somehow succeed. But where is the peace of mind? A person may lose all of it to achieve something that he has to do. Just performing a given job or task does not satisfy human mind. Performing well is the term. One needs to excel to give oneself an ounce of motivation to do the job better. And excellence comes with talent. I don’t understand why this is so difficult for people to understand. May be it is the financial adversities at one’s place, or the fear of losing one job and not getting another one that keeps people, esp. women, stuck in the field of their current jobs which they do not choose to work for.

Second one of the most appropriate causes of stress regarding a job could be described in relevance with a male dominant society. If the boss is a male and the employee is a female, she may have some issues regarding her safety, which is the reason why she finds it difficult or herself unable to speak against something she doesn’t wish to work on. This, however, is a matter on a gradual verge of demolishment.

Another one that could be added to the list of the many causes of stress pertaining to one’s job is not being let the way one wants to work. A subordinate may want to handle things assigned to him or her in own creative or manageable way. But what if the ego of a senior is hindering? The person has to work with pressure and this builds stress. This is a more frequent case with male seniors and female subordinates. Stress is directly associated to the death of brain cells, which in turn, perform poor in regulating the blood flow to all organs of the body. Fading away of the brain cells also invites chances of strokes and seizures. Stress disturbs the regulation of the blood flow, which indirectly troubles the heart. Such spreads the plague of heart and brain diseases due to stress. These stressful times are boomed with the risk of loss of the job. If one tends to perform weak due to the mounting stress of the job, he or she places him/herself at a greater risk of losing the job; with the growing competition among unemployed candidates. Such cases are severe when talking about single, i.e. divorced or widowed, mothers; with the house and the children to take care of.

One more cause of work related stress is simply the sheer amount of work we sometimes have to get through. You arrive at work to a desk already overflowing with tasks to do, the phone rings non stop, people keep popping and asking for help with other matters.

These things all make for a very stressful day at work.
