Belly Fat vs Thigh Fat

Fat is a substance which when deposited in the body tends to show a lot of changes and is a great deterrent in health sectors. Fat is what is stored in the body when there is a lack of exercise. Men show a tendency to store fat more in the abdominal area and they do not have any way of storing it on the thighs or hips. Women on the other hand show a tendency to store fat more other hips and thighs than on the belly.

So why exactly do we have this difference between men and women and why is fat normally associated with greater risks of heart disease and also diabetes? Why should hip and thigh fat play a lesser role for these conditions and why should belly fat play a greater role? This and many other factors intrigue all and thus the question of fat and health comes into play.

It is believed  that genes are very active in belly fat than that compared to thigh fat. The genes in a person’s thigh fat are very different from the fat  that is found in the belly fat. Around 125 genes are found in the belly than in the thighs. For the women there are around 218 genes that are found in this area. The most striking genes are the home box genes and these are very well know for their major role in shaping the embryo developing inside. These actually determine which are the cells and which are the organs that play a major role and where they go. There are many home box genes, which are under the influence of hormones like estrogen.

Why are these home box genes so important ? It is believed that these are the genes that guide the fat cells to respond to the signals and the hormones in the body. Stem cells show that fat is actually p reprogrammed as to which location it would be in. There is a difference in gene activity in the fat that is found in the stem cells and in the fat found in the thigh cells. The result showed that the cells are programmed thus that they know where they are supposed to be. Thigh fat and belly fat are destined to be in their final location when they are in the stage of developing. This is a difference that happens out of environmental exposure.

It is thus important that these differences are tackled with and one understands how they come. Women do not like large thighs and hips yet it happens . Women who have more belly fat are seen to have a heart attack more that women who have thigh and hip fat.

The fundamental difference in both these fat areas is what determines the treatments that are dealt with for these regions and they contribute a great deal to the obesity problems.

In short fat in any form is not healthy and it if it is a question of belly fat and thigh fat then one needs to keep a check on the diet. Fat is deposited as per where it is destined to be. The best thing to do would be to metabolize the entire system and have no fat at all.
