Beautifying Oneself By The Budget-Friendly Manner - Part I

Since times immemorial, women have left no stone unturned attempting the most outlandish do-it-yourself beauty therapies. The Japanese geishas dabbed on nightingale poop, the British upper class employed mercury along with dog urine while the gorgeous Cleopatra was reported to have bathed in tart donkey milk to maintain her ravishing beauty.

The need to maintain healthy, glowing, taut and even toned complexion is always perpetual, however, one could do so without the use of rather toxic items on our bodies. Here is a low down on the idyllic skin care regime that that be effortlessly dished out at home.

  • The wholesome breakfast cereal –a staple for the most important meal of the day can positively double up as a fine exfoliate facial cleaner. A simplistic facial cleanser could be whipped up by mixing in equal teaspoon portions of white or brown sugar, corn meal, coffee grounds and baking soda. This blend could be easily inculcated into one’s routine facial cleanser to derive optimal benefits. A good option is blending in oatmeal and brown sugar into one’s daily cleanser and scrubbing it on the face, leaving it on for ten minutes and washing off later. This mixture has anti-irritant and exfoliating properties and bound to leave a fresh, dewy effect.
  • One’s kitchen cabinet is the best place to resolve daily skin ailments. Like freshly squeezed apricots are quite beneficial for the itchiness and burning sensation experienced due to sun burn. Even a napkin soaked in chilled milk and placed on the face is great to relieve the irritation.
  • Turmeric is believed to have a myriad of antiseptic, inflammation-combating properties. A blend of quarter spoon of turmeric, two heaped tablespoonfuls honey, a half cup each of grinded oats and curds or yoghurt is to be evenly dabbed on the face to be left for close to twenty minutes, subsequently leaving one with a rejuvenated effect.
  • For skin eruptions and greasy or oily skin, brewer’s yeast about two teaspoonfuls with the whites of two eggs when blended well and applied with a big brush and left for close to half an hour is immensely effective.
  • Even the humble Milk of Magnesia when dabbed with on the skin and left to dry for ten minutes is prudent way to fix oily skin. Even buttermilk’s anti-astringent nature doubles as a mild cleansing agent cum oil soaker.
