Artificial Sweeteners and Sugar – A Threat to Good Health

The most chronic and persistent health problem that most of the world residents face today is due to excessive weight gain or obesity. One of the main causes of obesity and other weight related ill conditions is calories, which are in turn obtained most from sugar. A simple glass of orange juice, which is considered as a refreshment or energy agent, consists of sweet calories equal to 26 grams of sugar. 26 grams, when analyzed, comes to be similar to 6 tea spoons of sugar. The normal health and diet chart, referred to by most doctors and dieticians, says that one can consume a maximum of 10 – 12 tea spoons of sugar, i.e. hardly 50 – 60 grams. This may not be just natural fructose, but also artificial sweeteners included. This was just an orange juice glass, with 6 tea spoons already done! One may have such 2 glasses a day, and added cups of coffee, candies, fruits, chocolates, desserts and other sweet goods (or may be no goods) in one day, which makes us bound to cross the 12- teaspoons- of- sugar limits. So, is it worthy of a compromise, daily?

There are many side effects of artificial sweeteners. Mirrors and figures do not lie. 68 % of the population of a particular nation, for example, the U.S., is suffering from obesity and other health issue due to high sugar intake. Of this 68, 34 % are people are found to be of or around 20 years of age, with error fact of + or – 5 years. Weight is a complicated wild beast which we lose control of and gain the hazards. But this fiend could be brought into bounds. And this could be done by just cutting down on the daily sugar intakes. Isn’t it simple? Yes, it is. It includes all kinds of sweet substances and products like sugar, artificial sweeteners, fruit sugar, honey, syrups, corn sugar, sugar present in coconut milk, etc. Of these, avoiding the basic and natural sugary substances, like fruit and milk, would be a huge compromise, which may not really be necessary. Hence, to adjust within the limits of 50 grams of daily sugar intake, we need to learn to only thrive upon the natural fruit sugar. This means a total cut down on the artificial sweeteners. It is not that difficult to practice in the long run, though it may seem impossible in the very beginning. Believe me, I have been very strict with myself and have posed a good control in terms of sugar intake, and the results of my determination come in the form of the tastes of my tea, coffee, juices and so on. No added sugars do I use. There have been other outcomes like reduced inflammation and weight loss that had initially entered the picture due to excess intake of sugar.
