World Tuberculosis Day 2012
Every year on March 24, the whole world observes World Tuberculosis Day. It was in the year 1882 that a person called Robert Koch found that there were bacteria that caused tuberculosis. The day is respected and observed as World Tuberculosis Day in order to spread the awareness of how the disease affects people globally. The global effects of this disease is huge and so efforts are being taken to eliminate the disease by spreading the awareness. Today there are more than 2 million people who suffer from this disease and they often die of this epidemic TB or tuberculosis. The disease is said to be responsible for half the deaths in the world and South East Asia covers around 50% of the total annual deaths. In the year 1982, Robert Koch turned 100 and the hundredth birth anniversary was commemorated by allocating March 24 as World Tuberculosis Day. Veera Desai Jain Sangh had recently created a dialysis centre, Smt Dhanlaxmi R Vora Dialysis Centre, in a mutual aid with Lions Club of Versova, for the help of the deprived divisions of the society who are experiencing such type of dialysis. The inauguration of the centre of carried out by Honourable Shri Suresh Shetty, who is the Cabinet Minister for Public Health & Family Welfare, at Lion Kartar Singh Hospital, near Bhavans College, Andheri West in Mumbai.
