Looming Doubts Over Xenical And Alli Weight-Reducing Drugs Causing Liver Damage
The miasma hangs heavy over the rising reports of liver injury in patients consuming weight-loss medications like orlistat, vended under the name of prescription medicine Xenical and the past-the-counter drug Alli.
FDA has recently made an announcement regarding the detailed scrutiny of the thirty-two undesirable episodes of grave liver damage in those consuming orlistat that were observed during the time periods of 1999-2008, inclusive of twenty-seven cases that needed to be hospitalized and six of them with liver breakdown reported. FDA has made a notable finding that nearly thirty of the reported cases transpired outside the United States.
Xenical received FDA approval in 1999 while Alli got granted approval in 2007 as above-the-counter weight loss means for adult usage. Xenical is sold in close to hundred countries following approval.
