The Magnificent MitraClip – Redeemer For Leaky Hearts
A path breaking treatment conducted by the UK surgeons at the Hammersmith Hospital would benefit the lives of countless patients ailing from a leaking heart. The surgeon carried out a valve restoration operation with the assistance of ‘MitraClip’ for treating a heart condition known as dilated cardiomyopathy – impairment in the cardiac muscle that causes FMR (functional mitral regurgitation) a condition that is the consequence of a failed closure of the mitral valve in the heart. This causes a host of problems for the person comprising of breathing distress, weariness and fluid accumulation.
The insertion of the MitraClip is done via a catheter in the groin area which is guided to the heart employing ultrasound scanning and X-rays. The device when correctly placed function alike a clip that holds papers together, though here it functions in holding or clamping the valves together.
