With the wonders of stem cells back in focus, one would not need dentures anymore when there is a new-fangled technique to grow new teeth. In a revolutionary finding, Japanese scientists have successfully been able to cultivate teeth derived from stem cells. This advancement could make the need for dentures redundant.
The scientists from the University of Tokyo have successfully accomplished producing a tooth germ that is a seed similar part of a tissue that comprises of the cell structure and instructions needed to grow into a tooth. The researchers then transplanted the tooth germ in the jowl bone of a mouse. It was observed that the hormones present in the animal’s body responded positively to the transplant and assisted the growth of the teeth.
